As part of the 3rd SFS Consortium Meeting, the SFS project organised in the afternoon of October 1st an Open Session with several high profile speakers with expertise in ocean governance and mobilisation campaigns targeting different audiences. The Open Session took place at the Knowledge Pavilion, Ciência Viva (Lisbon, Portugal) and was attended by the SFS Consortium Partners and Portuguese civil society members.

The first panel of speakers shared their views on the relevance of the Sea For Society project, the relevance of the Blue Society concept and its linkage with a Blue Economy. This session was convened by Mrs. Ana Noronha, Executive Director, Pavilhão Conhecimento, Ciência Viva and had as speakers Prof. Mário Ruivo (President of the National Council for Environment and Sustainable Development (CNADS) and President of the Intersectorial Oceanographic Commission of the Portuguese Ministry for Science, Technology and Higher Education (COI/MCTES), Mr. Tiago Pitta e Cunha (Counselor for Environment, Science and Maritime Affairs to the President of Portugal), Mr. Ludovic Frere-Escofier (SFS Project Manager, Nausicaá) and Mrs. Carole Martinez (SFS WP5 Leader, IUCN).

The second panel of speakers shared successful mobilisation stories of researchers, companies, governments, local authorities and the general public in Portugal and at international level. This session, convened by Mr. Telmo Carvalho, Executive Director, EurOcean, was composed of the following speakers: Mr. Miguel Marques (Price Waterhouse Coopers), Mr. Douglas Thompson (Portuguese Society of Innovation - SPI), Mrs. Patricia Filipe (Lisbon Oceanarium) and Prof. Lia Vasconcelos (Faculty of sciences and Technology, Universidade Nova de Lisboa).
