The Sea For Society (SFS) Swedish Area Leader, UGOT, presented the Sea For Society project and the Blue Society vision to teachers, scientists, informal educators, and science communicators at the latest conference of the National Marine Educators Association (NMEA) that took place in Annapolis, USA (July 21-25).
Included in a presentation focusing marine educational and marine outreach projects at the Faculty of Sciences, University of Gothenburg Géraldine Fauville and Susan Gotensparre, SFS Area Leaders for Sweden, presented the goals of the SFS project as well as its different phases, Consultation phase, Mobilisation phase and Blue Society concept.
The concept of Blue Society, which will be presented in 2015 at a dedicated event, is being developed by an expert group composed of 16 experts with experience in different areas of society as for example industry, innovation companies, research, education, arts and policy making.
In scope of the consultation phase of the project Géraldine and Susan focused on the Consultation forums that took place in Sweden in May/June 2013 (Citizens/Youth Consultations) and September/October 2013 (Stakeholders Consultations). The mobilization activities in scope of the project will start after the cross-cutting challenge is identified at the Consensus Workshop meeting that will take place in Brussels on 16-17 September 2014. Mobilization activities will be disseminated through the SFS website and its National Blogs and will include activities at European level and at national level. Meanwhile, some pre-mobilization activities have already started in some countries (see related news: 20 June 2014 (Portugal); 16 July 2014 (Ireland); 22 July 2014 (Portugal)).
